Enrichment Subjects in Our Elementary Day

Reading, writing, and math are essential—but the Elementary years are also a time for children to discover their passions, explore new interests, and develop new talents.

At Alive Montessori & Private School, enrichment is part of everyday learning, with more than ten enrichment subjects included in every Elementary student’s program. Because education is about more than academics—it’s about helping children discover what they love and who they can become.

1. Physical Education

Daily Physical Education in our own on-site gym, led by our full-time Physical Education teacher, Ms. Anastasiia. This year that includes skating and our annual Terry Fox Run.

2. Dance

Our students explore the joy of movement through dance and salsa! They develop coordination, rhythm, confidence, and self-expression while having fun, learning new steps, and moving to the music.

3. Music

Children learn the basics on the keyboard and reading music with Ms. Nasim, our RCM-certified music teacher with 16+ years of teaching experience. Singing, rhythm and music theory build listening skills, memory and confidence.

4. French

Children learn French in a fun, engaging, and interactive way through activities, games, and conversation. Learning a new language becomes an exciting adventure!

5. Art

In art class, our children paint, sculpt, and explore mixed media, learning to express themselves through hands-on creative work inspired by our AGO trips, our annual art auction, and this year’s new mixed-media visit to Harbourfront Centre.

6. Drama and Theater

Last year, our Senior Kindergarten and Elementary students brought the stage to life with their first full-length production, Play Night! Drama helps children build confidence, work as a team, express themselves creatively, and find the courage to shine in front of an audience.

7. Cooking

With our new Dinner on Us program, children prepare food in class and bring home samples to share with their families.

Along the way, they develop practical life skills, build confidence, and experience the pride of creating something with their own hands.

8. Gardening

Planting and caring for a garden teaches patience, responsibility, and where food comes from.

9. Public speaking

Children practice standing up, organizing their thoughts and speaking clearly. It is a skill they will use for life.

10. Yoga

In yoga, our children build strength, balance, and focus, learning simple breathing and mindfulness techniques that help them feel calm and confident throughout the school day.

11. Chess

With Mr. Ameen, our Elementary assistant teacher, children learn focus, planning and how to win and lose with grace.

Optional add-on lessons (additional fee)

For families who want to go further, we offer private lessons in coding, piano, and gymnastics.

Coding: is more than working with computers. It teaches children to think step by step, solve problems creatively, and turn their ideas into something of their own.

Piano: In piano lessons with Ms. Nasim, an RCM-certified teacher with over 16 years of experience, children build musical skills, discipline, and confidence at their own pace.

Gymnastics: Led by Ms. Anastasiia, whose background is in professional artistic gymnastics, our gymnastics lessons develop strength, flexibility, and coordination, separate from our included PE program.

In Montessori, the goal is to educate the whole child. Enrichment gives every child more chances to find an interest, develop strengths, try something new, and feel proud of it. It also means families do not need to arrange as many supplemental activities after school.
